RELI 2100 World Christianity: Histories, Movements, and Encounters

Christianity is a diverse, dynamic, and evolving tradition that has taken root in different cultural contexts across the globe from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to Oceania. The diversity of cultural contexts has shifted Christianity from its Westernized form into various traditions and movements, emphasizing its hybrid nature. Through historical and contemporary case studies, students will survey major movements, theological developments, and interreligious encounters that shaped the development of Christian communities in the world. Special attention will be given to postcolonial perspectives, mission and migration, and the complex relationships between Christianity, culture, and power.
