Withdrawal from a Hybrid, Accelerated Course

Withdrawal due to Attendance
If the Registrar’s Office receives confirmation from the Program Director that a student has ceased attending all courses without explanation, the Registrar will withdraw that student from all courses per Augustana University policies.

Student-Initiated Withdrawal
There are several reasons for a student withdrawing from a graduate program. The most common reasons are academic, medical, personal, military deployment, among others. Regardless of the reason, a student may not withdraw from a single course during the matriculation of the program due to the sequential nature of the curriculum. Therefore, the withdrawal will be from the entire program. Students have the option of stating their intent of reapplying for readmission at the time of the original withdrawal.

A student who chooses to withdraw from the program must give formal written notice of this decision to the Program Director. A student might request an academic withdrawal in case that there is no mathematical possibility that the student might complete the trimester successfully without the possibility of lowering the GPA to the point of probation or dismissal from the program. This recommendation for academic withdrawal can also be initiated by the faculty advisor in consultation with the Director of Student Affairs and Program Director.

Program-Recommended Withdrawal
Augustana University considers each student's holistic health and wellbeing in decisions regarding withdrawal. The Program can grant and/or advise a student to request a medical or personal withdrawal in those cases in which the health of the student and or family member or other personal circumstances jeopardize negatively the academic performance of the student putting this student at risk of failing the program.

Military Withdrawal
Augustana University honors and respects the service of our military members and their service to the armed forces of The United States of America. Those students that for reasons of deployment or other military reasons, can request a military withdrawal providing the appropriate evidence for such withdrawal.

Faculty Notification
In any of the withdrawal circumstances, the Program Director will notify the faculty of this decision. The PD will also notify The Registrar to officially process the student's withdrawal.
Students who withdraw from the program have the option of applying for readmission at the moment of requesting the withdrawal or after receiving the official notification of their withdrawal from the Registrar’s Office.

Readmission After Withdrawal
Regardless of whether the student requested readmission at the moment of the withdrawal, students who would like to be readmitted into the program must submit a written reconfirmation or initial request for readmission to the Program Director at least two months before the beginning of the trimester for which readmission is requested. The student may be readmitted to the program if they were in good academic standing (GPA is 3.0 or better) at the time of the withdrawal, in good professional/behavioral standing before the withdrawal, and if approved by the Academic Standing and Progression Committee. In those cases where the Academic Standing and Progression Committee approves the readmission of the student, the student must return to the program within one calendar year of the original withdrawal date. If longer timeframes are expected, the student can apply for an exemption through the Academic Standing and Progression Committee. Students may be required to pass a competency exam verifying retention of previous course material or enroll in independent study course(s) to update information.  If the GPA standards and timeframe listed above are not met, the student must apply and be reaccepted to the program. Initial acceptance into the program does not guarantee re-acceptance.
An official withdrawal is granted only to students who complete the withdrawal petition properly and return it to the Registrar’s Office. Students who stop attending class without filing such a petition will jeopardize their prospects of receiving a refund and may incur academic penalties.

Students enrolled in cohort programs of study who withdraw from the sequence of offered courses may put completion of their degree in jeopardy. Cohort students may also be subject to a withdrawal fee.
