2024-2025 Undergraduate General Catalog

Social Work

Social Work encompasses enhancing the resiliency of people and communities; connecting people and communities with systems that provide resources, services, and opportunities; and promoting inclusion, diversity, equity, antiracism, and belonging. The Social Work curriculum utilizes a well-integrated program of liberal arts content, Social Work specific courses, and a professionally-guided field practicum. These experiences focus on the delivery of services to individuals, families, groups, and organizations, and/or communities within a Generalist Practice model.

The mission of the Augustana University's Social Work Program is to ensure that the Bachelor of Social Work students have the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive affective processes necessary for generalist social work practice with a focus on belonging, mastery, generosity, and independence, emphasizing the promotion of a positive social environment for client well-being. Therefore, Social Work students have a wide range of skills for an array of jobs. A Social Work faculty advisor will work with each student to identify career interests and to make appropriate course selections and practicum placements.
