Music Sample Plan of Study

Following is one possible way to complete the major.

Majors and Minors must normally complete their Applied Music requirement in the same performance area. Exceptions are permitted only upon petition to the Dean of the School of Music.

  • A recital performance of at least 30 minutes duration is required during the junior or senior year for music majors. No recital is required for Music minors. Music Education majors whose performing medium is piano or organ must receive credit for at least four terms of 30 or 50 minute lessons or instrumental lessons corresponding to the emphasis chosen.
  • Students are required to demonstrate keyboard proficiency in order to be admitted into 3000-level lessons.  Keyboard proficiency is demonstrated through passing the keyboard proficiency exam.  In the event that a student does not have prior keyboard experience, they should register for MUSI 1410-2411 and/or private keyboard lessons in order to gain the necessary skills to pass the proficiency exam.
