Music Education
Students pursuing the Music Education major must also declare a second major in All-Grades Education. The complete requirements for the music education program are outlined below and include the following:

All major courses for all tracks must be completed with a grade of C- or better.
Music Requirements: 56-64 credit hours
Required Courses: 30 credit hours
Lessons and Ensembles: 15-17 credit hours
Take a music ensemble (MUSI 1010-1022) every term. [8 credit hours total]
Take two terms of small music ensemble (MUSI 1100-1180). [0-2 credit hours total]
Take seven terms of applied lessons (MUSI 1700-1799). [7 credit hours total]
(Lessons must be completed in the SAME performance area)
Students are required to demonstrate keyboard proficiency. Keyboard proficiency is demonstrated through passing the keyboard proficiency exam. In the event that a student does not have prior keyboard experience, they should register for MUSI 1410, 1411, 2410, and 2411 and/or private keyboard lessons in order to gain the necessary skills to pass the proficiency exam.
Music Emphasis Area: 11-17 credit hours
Instrumental Emphasis: 17 credit hours
Required Courses: 13 credit hours
In addition to these courses, students must take three semesters of marching band and one semester of choir.
Marching Band: 3 credits
Take three semesters of marching band: MUSI 1002 - 1005.
Winds, Brass, and Percussion students must take three semesters of marching band. Keyboard and String students are exempt from the marching band requirement but are encouraged to participate.
Music Ensemble - Choir: 1 credit
Take one semester of music ensemble - choir: MUSI 1020 - 1022.
Vocal Emphasis: 11 credit hours
Required Courses: 7 credit hours
Pedagogy Courses: 4 credit hours
Take two of the following courses.
Education Requirements: 44 credit hours
Education Courses: 25 credit hours
Methods Courses: 7 credit hours
Student Teaching: 12 credit hours

Following is one possible way to complete the major.
Students should fill in gaps with coursework required for the core curriculum and other majors/minors to take an average of 14 credit hours each fall and spring, and 3-4 credit hours each Interim. Total credit hours needs to be 124 for degree completion.
