Electives

Take 13-14 hours of elective GOVT coursework. Total GOVT Hours needs to be 35 with the two required courses, five area courses and elective courses (4-5 courses).

No more than 3 credit hours of GOVT 3950 may be used toward the electives.

Honors in Government:

A student may graduate with Honors in Government and International Affairs by: 1) possessing a cumulative grade point average of 3.5; 2) maintaining a department grade point average of 3.5; 3) receiving a B or higher in one course from each of the content areas at the 3000 level; and 4) earning an A grade in GOVT 4910 and GOVT 4911 (research seminar and honors seminar). Students should apply for admission to the honors program and must complete 39 credit hours in the discipline.

Government Sample Plan of Study

Following is one possible way to complete the major.  

Students should fill in gaps with coursework required for the core curriculum and other majors/minors to take an average of 14 credit hours each fall and spring, and 3-4 credit hours each Interim.  Total credit hours needs to be 124 for degree completion.
